How to Create “Seasonal Spots” in Your Home
I love to celebrate the seasons here at Starfish Cottage, probably because Florida doesn’t have many seasonal changes outside, I like to update my home seasonally on the inside! Since I don’t want to redecorate my entire home every season, I have learned how to make small, inexpensive seasonal updates that make a maximum impact!
A little trick I have used for years that works pretty well is creating a few “seasonal spots” throughout your home that you can easily update and change.
I have made a list of my top 5 “seasonal spots” or areas in your home to update for maximum impact with minimum effort…here they are decorated for fall:
Spot 1- The Front Door-
Whether you use a wreath or a fun hanging basket or other creative door decor, the front door is an easy and VERY VISIBLE way to update your home for the seasons. I have used this fabulous hanging basket for years and love filling it with various seasonal items, here it is for Fall 2018!
Spot 2: The Entry Table-
I currently have this large black vintage Sheraton-style console table in our foyer, and I love to add seasonal accents here, this year, I added a cluster of white pumpkins and a big vase of purple mums (purple is my accent color this month!) They look a little coastal mixed with my oyster shell mirror and a large piece of white coral.
Spot 3- The Dining Table-
Another easy place to update seasonally is your dining table- pull out some festive table linens like a runner or colorful napkins or some cute plates and don’t forget to update the centerpiece. Our dining table is constantly changing, my family says its like a “box of chocolates…you never know what you are going to get!
Spot 4- The Kitchen Counter-
Not sure about your house, but at our house, the kitchen is the center of our home! So updating the kitchen counter seasonally is a high-profile seasonal spot. The easiest way is to have some sort of container and fill it with various seasonal flowers, foilage and stems.
Spot 5- The Coffee Table-
Coffee tables are great places to add a touch of seasonal decor, it can be as simple as some seasonal greenery, on our living room coffee table this month I added a big vase of pussy willow branches and a few mini white pumpkins to our large clamshell bowl.
Other favorite “seasonal spots” to consider updating include: throw pillows and blankets, guest bath hand towels, decorative kitchen towels and accent pillows and throws in the bedroom.
Instead of redecorating your entire house every season, try picking one of these great focal points and updating it regularly!
(By the way, you don’t always have to wait for a change of seasons to update or change one of these areas…be adventurous! Try something new!)
