How to Create a Timeless, Classic Home

I always love to hear about all the latest design trends, but what I love even more is creating a timeless, classic home that will stand the test of time (maybe with a trendy piece added here and there for fun!) Here are my top tips for creating a beautiful classic home:

1. Select timeless, classic Finishes-

When selecting finishes like wall color, flooring, cabinets, counters, bathroom and kitchen tile, look for neutral, classic styles that will stand the test of time. These types of finishes are expensive and difficult to change so you will want these to look good for years to come!

2. Select timeless, classic furnishings-

For large items like upholstery (sofas, chairs, etc…) and furniture (tables, cabinets, dressers) I like to select items that have clean lines in neutral colors and wood tones. You want these items to be versatile “building blocks” for a beautiful home!

3. Select timeless, classic fabrics and materials-

Fabrics like linen, velvet, cotton, have been around hundreds of years for a reason! They are timeless. Materials like wood, marble, bronze and glass are also classics- invest in these high-quality materials and they will stand the test of time.

4. Have fun with trendy accents-

Now that you have built a timeless, classic foundation it’s time to have a little fun with more trendy colors and decor- add a few accent pillows in a bold, trendy color. Maybe purchase some new bedding in a fun pattern or color. Keep your timeless, classic home looking fresh and current by adding trendier artwork, accessories and accents to your beautiful basics!
