HGTV Dream Home 2016 (My Top Ten)
Every year, the week after Christmas, I start to look forward to the HGTV Dream Home Episode. Over the years, HGTV has had some pretty spectacular homes and this year, I was so happy that they chose Merritt Island, Florida (yay! go Florida!) as the site of their latest dream home. Not only that, but this years home was decorated in the coastal style (my favorite, as you know) last years dream home was also decorated in the coastal style, so I feel like coastal style decor must be really HOT right now!!
What is interesting about this years home is that it was a remodel instead of new construction, here is a “before” photo of the exterior:
Here are my top ten favorite things about this year’s HGTV Dream Home…
1. White picket fence and pink bougainvilla in the courtyard.
I love the small courtyard they created near the entry and pink bougainvilla is a classic Florida favorite!
2. The view of the water from the Great Room…the waterfront view takes center stage as you enter the home, in fact the designer was smart to keep the colors soft and neutral to keep the focus on the spectacular view.
3. The floor to ceiling photo in the Living Room. Covering the entire wall with a vintage black and white photo takes GUTS, but I actually like how it turned out…though this idea probably won’t be showing up around Starfish Cottage anytime soon!
4. Striped upholstered barstools in the Kitchen. Nothing says “coastal decor” like a beautiful striped fabric…these barstools add softness and color to the mostly neutral kitchen.
5. Trio of polished nickel pendants in Dining Room. For me, gorgeous lighting can totally MAKE a room, and these sparkly pendants are like a gorgeous piece of jewelry that has been added to a beautiful outfit…perfect!
6. Everything about the blue and white Terrace Bedroom. My all-time favorite color combo, blue and white! What can I say, I am in love!
7. Free-standing tub and chandelier in the Master Bathroom. Someday, I will have a freestanding tub and a pretty chandelier in my bathroom…until then, I will just admire this room!
8. Light wood flooring throughout…it must be like walking on a cloud! The floors are so beautiful, but I wonder if they are hard to keep clean?
9. The outdoor kitchen. I would LOVE a beautiful outdoor entertaining area like this someday!
10. The chaise lounges by the pool…as much as I love the home and it’s decor, I have to be honest, this is probably where I would like to spend most of my time!!
