DIY Oyster Shell Mirror
One of my favorite things in our home is my large DIY Oyster Shell Mirror that I created several years ago. It used to hang over the sofa in our living room, but now hangs in our Entry above an antique sideboard. This mirror was easy and fun to make, and I had no idea what I was doing when I started out making it, but here’s what I did:
Disclaimer: these photos are from several years ago- LOL!
First, I purchased a large flat edge framed mirror the size I needed and painted it ivory. (The lighter color works nicely with the oyster shells and the little “holes and gaps” are less obvious than if it were a darker frame.
Then I purchased several bags of bulk oyster shells, got out my hot glue gun and glue sticks, spread out a large drop cloth on our dining room table and got to work…
It was a lot like doing a jigsaw puzzle because I was trying to cover up as much of the frame as possible.
I discovered that hot glue worked better for me on this project than liquid nails adhesive.
I like quick and easy DIYS and I was able to finish it in about two hours…perfect!
Moving and hanging the mirror can be tricky and after I hung it on the wall, I needed to re-glue a few shells that had fallen off while it was being handled.
We truly love this one-of-a-kind piece- it adds so much “coastal style” to our entry and I want to encourage you to give it a try sometime!
