B & A Family Room
The Family Room is a close runner-up in the "most dramatic before and afters" award…this space opens directly onto the kitchen which is great for entertaining and everyday living. The house had this strange built-in media area with a faux fireplace, roman columns, dental moulding, and faux painted brick. The fireplace area was flanked by a pair of niches. This was totally not my style, so I will show you what we did.

We decided we liked the "idea" of a fireplace wall, so we kept the niches on either side and installed a more classic mantle. My husband's favorite part of our new home (besides having the boat out back) is the new 60" tv!!! Great for Saturday College Football games!!! I "coastal-ized" (Just invented a new word) the niches with palmetto branches in vases, coral and seashells.
One of my favorite new things are the pair of wall lanterns…I have remote control battery candles in there and turn them on at night for a fun touch!
All said, we are loving our new family room…it works great for us and turned out nice. The dark khaki wall color looks great as a backdrop with all my white slipcovers and draperies.
