I (Heart) Walmart $10 Orchid Arrangement
As I mentioned last week, I am on a personal quest to make Walmart “cool” again!
So I am back today with another $10 Walmart craft/DIY project involving one of my favorite things…
white orchids!!!
(If you don’t believe me, read this post I HEART White Orchids)
First of all, let me say that real, live white orchids are truly my favorite and you can purchase small white potted orchid plants in the garden department of most Walmarts on a regular basis, but I was so happy when I was walking past the Floral Aisle (on my way to somewhere MUCH more boring, like the Toothpaste Aisle) and saw beautiful silk white orchid stems for $5 each and a few of them magically jumped in my basket!
Here it is! See the tag actually says $5…so exciting!
For this project, I gathered together some supplies I already owned…my vintage DIY wine crate, (click HERE to read more about it) a few ivy stems I had lying around, floral foam, wire cutters, and my old hot glue gun.
First, I hot glued 4 blocks of floral foam inside the crate to give it a large, sturdy base for the ivy and orchids.
Because orchid stems are so tall, you need a tall foam base to keep them in place.
Next, I trimmed my orchid stems with wire cutters to my desired height.
Wire cutters come in VERY handy for this, but I have used scissors in the past.
Then I placed the two stems in the foam with the blooms facing out from each other.
Then I mixed two small ivy stems with another stem of greenery for a more natural look…the two ivys went on the outside and the larger greenery went in the middle…
Here it is more put together…
I like to add things like woven rattan balls and white starfish to my arrangements too!
Here it is “center stage” on the coffee table in our Family Room…not bad for $10 from Walmart…right?
See… you can find beautiful, elegant, lovely things at your local Walmart…you just need to know WHERE to look, WHAT to look for, and HOW to put it together!
